At Beauty Uncovered we source our pieces from around the globe to ensure we give you quality metals paired with high-quality plating. Normal wear and tear can be experienced with fashion Jewellery (gold vermeil, plated, 925 sterling silver). To extend the life of your jewellery, please give them occasional breaks and keep them away from any moisture and creams.
Please follow these tips below to prevent tarnish and maintain the quality of your jewellery:
  • Avoid sweat and moisture
  • Avoid swimming, bathing, showering, or washing your hands with jewellery on
  • Avoid chemicals (e.g., hand cream and perfumes)
  • Allow hand/face cream to dry before putting on any jewellery
  • Remove jewellery before bed
  • Wipe with a soft microfibre cloth
  • Apply a layer of polymer coating/clear nail varnish on the inside of brass-based rings

    What causes the Green Finger?
    Traces of copper will be found in gold plating as this contributes to the colouring of the metal. In some extreme cases where the skin is sensitive and/or highly acidic, you may experience some oxidization (slight greening). Chemicals found in hand cream are another main cause of oxidization. Oxidization is a common trait found in even the highest quality jewellery.

    Treating the green finger?
    1. Remove the stain by scrubbing your skin with soap and warm water.
    2. For more stubborn stains use make-up remover or rubbing alcohol and wipe the affected area using a cotton pad, and then rinse off with warm water and soap.
    3.  A non-acetone nail varnish remover can be used to remove more troublesome stains. Again, using a cotton pad, rub gently over the affected area, and rinse with soap and warm water. Note regular use of non-acetone nail varnish remover can cause dryness of the skin.
